What Is Cops on Top North Carolina?

The Cops on Top program is a unique and highly visible fundraiser where law enforcement officers climb onto the rooftops of local businesses to raise awareness and collect donations for Special Olympics athletes. Members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies volunteered their time, often spending hours on rooftops at stores like Belk and Walmart, to engage the community and spotlight the mission of Special Olympics NC.

This event is part of the larger Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which helps fund year-round training and competition opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.


Recent Event in Haywood County

Most recently, Cops on Top came to Haywood County on September 5, 2025. Troopers and volunteers spent the day on the rooftop of Belk in Waynesville, cheering on shoppers, collecting donations, and spreading the message of inclusion.

It was incredible to see the local community rally together in support of Special Olympics NC athletes. Events like this remind us that even small towns can make a big difference when people unite behind a powerful cause.
